MTI to enter RFID market

Monday, December 29, 2008 in News

Microelectronics Technology Inc. (MTI), a Taiwan-based provider of communication and network equipment, has announced plans to add RFID technology to its product line. Company officials are looking at the expansion into RFID, along with new WiMax equipment offerings, as a way to combat the current rough economic times.

MTI is in the process of finalizing cooperative deals with a number of international companies to begin production of RFID readers. The details of the partnerships have not been announced, but the expectation is that the new readers will begin shipment in the first quarter of 2009.

Despite the global financial slump, MTI is predicting new revenue highs for the end of 2008, with a record monthly revenue from November of this year likely to be broken when the December numbers are final. According to company officials, MTI’s core business is tied to a basic telecom infrastructure, which is less vulnerable to economic downturns. [end]
