Essen RFID, a Mumbai headquartered RFID provider, announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility at Baddi Industrial Town in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan District.

The new 3,500 square foot facility will be home to the company’s manufacturing of custom ultra-high frequency RFID tags, such as the Metallica tag and the Acqua tag.

The company’s Metallica tag is used for tracking shipping containers in logistics and spare parts in the automotive industry - things made of metal. It offers a read distance of up to 24 feet and is resistant to harsh chemicals, acids, and alkalis.

The Acqua tag sports a read range of up to 30 feet and is designed for tracking laundry, clothes and apparel with its waterproof seal and high tolerance for temperatures reaching up to 150° C. [end]

Aethon announced recently that it’s automated tracking and chain-of-custody system - MedEx - is now operational at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

The MedEx System serves as enhancement to the TUG robot, also developed by Aethon, and allows hospital pharmacies to know the real-time location and status of medications throughout the facility. Combining passive RFID technology and biometrics capabilities built into the TUG secure carts, MedEx automatically creates an electronic chain-of-custody receipt including the person, location, and date/time indicating when an item is placed in and removed from the TUG.
